Grandparents’ Day

May 4, Friday-  Since the kindergarten and their grandparents will fill the building this coming Friday, the rest of us will be staying out of the way.  Fourth grade will have some special visitors in the morning , and then we will eat in the pavilion at about 11:45.  Please feel free to come eat with your child and then take him/her home.  However, please remember to check out your child with me before you leave.  Each student will need to bring a drink and sack lunch and a towel on Friday.  If you want to your child to order a sack lunch from the cafeteria, we will take care of that on Thursday.

Spring Fever

Just a few notes-

The Valentine’s Day parties will be on February 14.  Your child needs to bring his/her favorite drink (single serving only) and a treat for the class if he/she wants to do so.  Please make sure the goodies have no nuts of any type due to allergies.  The students can also bring valentines for their classmates.  We have 19 students.  Thanks!

February 20 is a holiday for everyone!

Spring Break is the week of March 12-16, 2012

Easter Break is Friday, April 6.  We will meet about our party after Spring Break.

Please keep working on math facts and A.R. reading at home.

Texas Day

All fourth graders will participate in Texas Day this Friday.  If your child has chosen not to eat the chili lunch provided by the cafeteria, he/she will need to bring a lunch from home.  All students will need to bring a towel to sit on for the meal and some of the outdoor activities.  Please encourage your child to be on his/her best behavior since we will have many visitors that have donated their time and talent to make this day successful and enjoyable.

Welcome to Fourth Grade!

I hope all of you had a wonderful summer break and are now ready for fourth grade at White Oak Intermediate.  We will have a great year together.  I just wanted to share a few things that will help the year go smoothly.  Parents, please  check the planners and homework folders each day for assignments and notes.  Also, please read the student handbook carefully, especially in regard to the dress code and birthday party invitations.  Finally, since it  is so hot, your child might want to bring water in a sealable unbreakable bottle.

Our German Visitor

When Caleb came to school the next day, Caleb told Mrs.Z.,  his teacher, about his friend Gunnar Rinne. Mrs.Z. suggested that we should bring Gunnar for a visit to our school. He came the next Thursday after Caleb invited him for dinner. He came at noon while we were eating lunch.  After lunch, he told us information about his life.

A man from Germany came to our school! His name is Gunnar Rinne, and he  lives near Hamburg,Germany. He works at Weatherford and he is also a Part-time farmer. (He has his own farm.) His farming fields are in parts.

We got Gunnar to come because we’ve been studying books about German settlers that moved from Wehrstedt, Germany, to Texas. It happens to be so that Gunnar lives near Wehrstedt, but hasn’t been over there.

Here’s how, Caleb, one of our students from White Oak intermediate school, met Gunnar Rinne. It was a Thursday in March when Caleb’s dad invited Gunnar for dinner. Caleb’s dad  works with Gunnar. Caleb’s mom served Gunnar chicken adobo. He told Caleb’s family about his family. He has a wife and two kids, a boy and a girl. He also has a golden colored dog. Then he gave Caleb a German coin worth about$2.50 or $2.60. Also, he said that he had two ancestors that fought in World War I.

Gunnar told us about his house and how it has 26 rooms, the walls are 1-foot thick, and it was built in the late 1700’s. It’s also been passed down in his family, and there was a fire, but the rebuilt the house. The food in Germany is mostly potatoes and meat. (They don’t eat a lot of sauer-kraut.) Today Gunnar is currently in Corpus Christi. Thank You Gunnar for coming. Let God Bless You.
